Musical Ecologies continues Thursday November 13th with Brooklyn-based composer, acoustician and French horn player Anne Guthrie for an evening of electroacoustic experimentation. Joined by bassist Billy Gomberg and flutists Robbie Lee and Leonard Roussel, Guthrie will lead a forty-five minute performance within a sonic environment using low-frequency oscillators, pre-recorded sounds and live-processing. Equal parts sound installation and concert work, the Great Room of the Old Stone House will be reconfigured to allow listeners to move around the space during the performance.
Musical Ecologies is a monthly symposium on music and sound held every 2nd Thursday (except where noted) at the Old Stone House in Park Slope, Brooklyn. Curated and hosted by composer Dan Joseph, each event typically focuses on a single artist who presents a work or project either in the form of a talk or lecture, a multimedia presentation, a performance, or combination thereof. Each presentation is preceded by a 30-minute conversation with the curator and audience and a reception follows the performance.
About the artist:
Anne Guthrie is an acoustician, composer, and French horn player based in Brooklyn, NY. She studied music composition at University of Iowa, and architectural acoustics at Rensselaer Polytechnic Insitute. Her music combines processed field recordings and instrumental improvisation while exploiting architectural and psycho-acoustic phenomena to distort and obscure sonic identities. Along with her solo work, she often performs and records with Billy Gomberg as FrauFraulein, and with Gomberg and Richard Kamerman as Delicate Sen.
Upcoming on Musical Ecologies: Ken Montgomery (12/11); Connie Crothers (1/8/15); Laura Ortman (2/12)….
